Hyundai Car Key Replacement: Every Key Type, Every Model
Modern Hyundai vehicles use several distinct key technologies, and the replacement process for each is genuinely different. Older Hyundai models — some Elantras from the early 2000s, for example — used basic laser-cut or edge-cut metal keys that our technicians can duplicate or originate on a mobile key-cutting machine. Mid-generation models added a transponder chip inside the key head; the chip must be programmed to match the vehicle's immobilizer, or the engine simply won't start even if the key turns the lock. Failing to program the transponder is the single most common reason a newly cut Hyundai key won't start the car.
More recent models — including the Hyundai Sonata, Santa Fe, Kona, and Elantra HEV — use proximity smart keys and push-button start systems. These require both an accurately cut emergency blade and a properly coded radio-frequency identity loaded into the fob, a process that demands dealer-grade diagnostic hardware. Our mobile units carry that hardware. We service Hyundai key fobs, remote heads, flip keys, and full smart key assemblies, and we can add a new key to the vehicle's memory without erasing existing keys — an important detail if you have a working spare at home.
